Attaching A GPS Device

To use the GPS Tracking feature, a GPS device must be installed on the computer where TicketRx is running. Follow the instructions provided with the GPS device to connect it to the computer and install any necessary drivers. Typically a GPS device will be either a serial device or a USB device. If it is a serial device it will connect directly to a serial port on the computer. If it is a USB device then it will connect to the computer via a USB cable. USB devices typically include a device driver that makes the GPS device appear as an additional COM port on the computer. For some GPS devices, Microsoft Windows® will recognize the device and automatically install the device. Other GPS devices come with an installation CD that is used to install the GPS device.

Once the GPS device is installed the GPS tracking feature can be used on that computer.

GPS Device Compatibility

The GPS Tracking feature is compatible with the NMEA 0183 standard Version 1.5 and higher. Any GPS device that complies with this standard should work with TicketRx. To use both TicketRx and MapPoint concurrently, a software "port splitter" is required, such as XPort.

GPS Units

TicketRx is compatible with most devices the use the NMEA standard. The following list describes devices that have been tested by the TicketRx team.
