Client Versions

There are three different versions of the TicketRx client:

  1. Beta Client
  2. Pilot Client
  3. Production Client

All three client versions (Beta, Pilot, and Production) use the same underlying database. For instance, changes saved to the server via the Beta client will be visible from the Pilot and Production clients. Since all three versions use the same database, different users can be using different versions.

Beta Client

The Beta client is a version of the TicketRx client that is automatically updated as each new release is prepared. The Beta client can then be used to test new features before those features are delivered to all users. Customers are able to test the Beta clients to be sure they will work well in production use.

Pilot Client

When the customer has tested the Beta version and has determined that it is ready for use then they request the Pilot version be updated to match the Beta version. The Pilot version is generally only used by some of the users. The Pilot version can be used to upgrade users to a new version without affecting all of the locators in the field. This ability is important in cases where locators do not have high-bandwidth network connections to download a new client. The Pilot also provides an opportunity for an extended test period before a new version is promoted to Production.

Production Client

The Production client is the version of the client used by the majority of the users. The customer decides when to upgrade the Production version to match the Pilot version.

To summarize the update policy:

  • Beta is automatically updated with new versions. If you find any problem with Beta, simply report it to MWM support, and switch back to using Pilot.
  • Pilot is updated at the customer's request. (Beta version is promoted to Pilot.)
  • Production is updated at the customer's request, generally sometime after Pilot has been updated. (Pilot is promoted to Production.)
